Sara Jay was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in November 1977. She was an only child, raised by her married parents, until they divorced when she was 11. Her parents both liked to drink at the bar, and back in the late 80’s, you could bring your kids to the bar. She took a job washing dishes at the bar and eventually asked her parents to divorce because they had an unhealthy relationship. After they divorced, she became estranged from her father.

After graduating high school, she studied at the University of Cincinnati with a major in psychology; it was her dream to be a counselor. She also studied interior design. She was your typical college student, working odd jobs to make ends meet. At one point, she was working four jobs: coat check girl at a nightclub, waitress, customer service, and phone surveys. She met her future husband at the nightclub she worked, and he was the one who suggested she start stripping. He told her she could make the same money in that one job instead of working the four jobs she was doing. It was a fellow stripper who initially planted the seed for adult sex work for Sara.

In 1999, she and her husband moved from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Las Vegas, Nevada. Sara has said she went from being the big fish in a small pond (in Cincinnati) to being a small fish in a big pond (in Las Vegas). This was her perception when she moved to Vegas and started stripping; there was a lot of competition in Vegas. There were more customers, but a lot more dancers too. It was then that she talked to her husband about doing porn, and he supported her. He would take Polaroid photos of her; then she would take the photos to the library and scan them to a floppy disk.
