Her name is Karla Kush, but her career is certainly not in a stoner haze. An exciting performer to watch, Karla is what’s known in porn as a clean-up hitter. No, she won’t come by to clean up your gooey mess; we mean her scenes are strong enough to hold the rest of the DVD together, leading to—hopefully—an explosive closing scene. Usually an underrated position and performer, Karla knows a thing or two about making guys explode. Read on for our pornstar interview with Karla Kush.

Are you a dominant or submissive person?
KK: With women I’m dominant. With men I’m submissive. I’m a complete switch. When I’m in a relationship with a guy for a while, I’ll switch it up a bit and try to dominate him.
How similar is your real life vs. your porn life?
KK: I never felt the need to create a separate personality from myself. Karla Kush protects my anonymity, but I’m not doing anything on camera that I wouldn’t do off camera. I am who I am. I don’t have an alter ego.
How does an actress go from being a “porn girl” to being a “porn star”?
KK: A porn girl shoots with everyone once and then she’s done. Anyone can be a porn girl. What makes a porn star is lasting power.

What was your longest romantic relationship?
KK: About three years. My boyfriend, Robbie, encouraged me to get into the business. He suggested we make a sex tape, and that progressed to camming. We got each other into the business. He did all my early editing work, and about a year after I moved to California, I brought him into the business.
Is it hard to date outside of the porn industry?
KK: I ended a relationship because my boyfriend couldn’t handle what I do. This happens to a lot of girls in the industry. They get with guys who love them, but can’t handle their job. I haven’t dated anyone in the industry, but I always have the same problem. The relationship is hot in the beginning, and then the guy eventually asks me, “When are you going to quit? When are you going to only do girl-girl scenes?” It’s a drag, because I’m totally honest right up front and then their attitude changes.

Have you ever hooked up with a fan?
KK: No. I don’t escort. I only fuck people I’m really attracted to. I’m open to it, though, if the guy or girl is attractive.
What advice would you give a civilian guy who wants to date a porn actress?
KK: All of us girls in the industry want the same thing; we don’t want to feel weird or different because of what we do. We want to be courted and treated with respect just like any other girl.
How important is trust in a relationship?
KK: It’s everything, not just in romantic relationships. You need trust in friendships, and with your family, too. Trust is respect.
What’s one thing your fans would be surprised to learn about you?
KK: I hate snoring! I hooked up with this really hot guy who was great in bed, but he snored so bad, I had to end our relationship. I can’t sleep if there’s a lot of noise.

How do you react when your fans see you in public?
KK: I like being recognized, but it’s kind of scary. It’s only happened few times, and it’s almost always in the Las Vegas airport. Most people are nice, and it’s fun, but it freaks me out.
What advice would you give to new girls entering the adult entertainment business?
KK: Keep your books straight. Don’t let other people handle your finances. You are your own professional business entity. You have he power to make or break yourself. Sometimes it’s hard for 18-year-old girls to remember that. Don’t let anyone talk you into doing anything you don’t want to do.
Anything you’d like to say in closing to our readers?
KK: I love my fans! You make my life exciting and worthwhile, and your interest in me is flattering and humbling.
